The clans are fighting to take control of drug trafficking and extortion rackets in some of Naples's northern suburbs, said Captain Gianluca Migliozzi of the local Carabinieri police. They are charged with Mafia association, illegal possession of weapons and drug trafficking.

Separately, Interior Minister Roberto Maroni confirmed that a bomb blast that damaged a courthouse in another southern Italian city, Reggio Calabria, was the work of the powerful local crime syndicate, the 'ndrangheta.

Maroni said in an interview with financial daily Il Sole 24Ore that he will increase the number of police and improve ties with the judiciary as part of measures to fight the 'ndrangheta.

The blast early on Sunday damaged the entrance of the courthouse.


It seems that the Italian government is giving it an all out attempt to quash the crime families. When so much pressure is put on these groups history has shown, as with Mussolini who vowed to crush organized crime in Italy, they immigrate to other parts of the world. The U.S. got more then its share of these bad boys in the last round. Let’s hope history does not repeat itself.

Family, friends paying respects to Nick Rizzuto Jr. Family and friends of Nick Rizzuto Jr. are gathering Friday afternoon at the Complexe Funeraire Loreto in St. Leonard for the second of two visitations.

Andre DiMino, president of the largest Italian-American service organization in the U.S., recently told the New York Times that he found their behavior "reprehensible and demeaning in all respects."

"I don't see any redeeming value in the show," DiMino told the Times. "They are an embarrassment to themselves and to their families."

After the show's Dec. 3 premiere, featuring cast members self-described as "guidos" and "guidettes," MTV staffers were reportedly the target of threats, according to Fox News.com.
